Quick and Sharp Aug 24, 2008 I been sharpening my woodworking tools using water stones and sandpaper. Both methods work but take time. I decided to try the work sharp 3000 and it works exactly as advertised. Think of it as a better platform to manually sharpen.
It sharpens very quickly and with no effort you get edges that will cut arm hair with ease. For tools I need the best of edges on, I start with the work sharp then a quick go on my finest water stone and I have a perfect edge in no time.
The only down side for the work I need it to do is a couple of my smoothing plan blades are too wide for it to work the bevel. You can work larger blades from the top, but I find it impractical without a jig which I have not had time to fool with and really don't find it a problem.
I also noted that if you clean the sandpaper after each use, the paper lasts a very long time. I am honestly surprised how long the paper is lasting me.
Bottom line, I got fast sharpening and I did not have to pay over 400 dollars for one of those other sharpening systems that then need $300 in add-ons to be able to sharpen tools.

OK, BUT..... Feb 27, 2008 THE FIRST PROBLEM IS THE BOOKLET, IT'S NOT WRITTEN THAT WELL. SECONDLY, YOU DO HAVE TO PAY STRICT ATTENTION WHILE YOU ARE DOING IT BECAUSE THERE IS PLENTY OF PLAY IN THE SLOT WHERE THE CHISELS GO, GIVING YOU AMPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO MESS UP THE ANGLE REGARDLESS OF THE SETTING.
Also, there is no indicator on the machine by which you could judge the correct angle of the blade you are sharpening, something that would have been really simple to add on.
This is essentially an automated scary sharp system, and it pretty much works as advertised, maybe I'm being too nit picky?
