Cheaper than local, only use with regular light bulbs, and they do eventually have to be replaced. Dec 13, 2011 By Two kids mom "scienceteachermom"
First of all, this is not to be used with CFL (basically any kind of florescent lamp) or LED lamps (at least the current technology). This is for your old fashioned, Thomas Edison design, filament light bulbs.

It works very well and is about half the price of your local big box hardware store. Plus, at the hardware store you have to find it, which can be difficult.

If you have trouble with the directions (which are really not that great) then google "wiring a 3 way touch lamp".
These switches do have a finite life, and sometimes will die when the light bulb burns out (from the sudden current surge generated) . Mine last about 7 years or so before needing to be replaced (since the warranty is 5 years, this seems to be expected), . At the price on here that is about a dollar a year, worth the convenience for the one lamp I want to be able to dim.

Works as promised. A quick 5 minute install and the lamp is working again. The only thing is that they should warn in bolder print that you cannot use a CFL bulb. I was warned by another reviewer and it saved me from blowing the circuit!

impossible/hard to find wiring diagram for westek 6503 Apr 20, 2012 By Sonny "Sonny"
I replaced dimmer controls in two lamps with these units successfully without popping any circuits. The color code of Brown Black Grey Yellow threw me off, but Brown=Red and Grey=White. I was replacing units with Red Black White Yellow. (Load A/C Power Switch)

Brown -- Load Hot (Red)
Black -- Feed Hot (Black)
Grey --- Hot and Load Neutral (White)
Yellow - Metal lamp Ground [touch plate] (Yellow)

The dimmer was an excellent replacement part. Instructions were easy to follow. The only issue I had with the part was that it was a little larger than the one I replaced it with. As a result, it was little difficult to install the part in the bottom of the lamp.

Product description states that item comes with wire nuts and instillation instructions. Not so. Item was stuffed in an envelop wrapped in an invoice and that about it. Not even sure if item is new, as was stated, or has been removed from something else.
Had to go on an on-line scavenger hunt to find a wiring diagram.

Prouduct might be ok but seller needs a little work.
