Another "don't buy" vote Jan 21, 2011
By V. J. wallace I wish I had seen the earlier review before wasting money on this. It never got very hot, and now seems to be dead (after maybe an hour of use).

Don't Buy Sep 12, 2010 I'm not sure what you are soldering but this gun barely heats up in comparison to the Buffalo Tools gun. Also, not good for trying to ditch the lighter and save a few on the Herb Iron my friends (if you know what I mean, save up and pay the 75 for it).
Sorry, but mine works fine... Feb 17, 2012
By Craig Weems It is a cheap gun, granted but it heats quickly and has no problem doing the light soldering I have to do (joining 18ga speaker wires). I have had mine for 3 months. I do know that this gun and most of this type use high amperage at low voltage to work. It doesn't take much resistance to drop the voltage to 0. I expect that sudden losses of heat are coming from corrosion at the tips. A little cleaning and tightening should restore normal operation. This is what I did on an older Wen gun that would occasionally stop dead. Will update in a few months to see if my gun falls subject to the catastrophic failure the other reviewers report, util then I've got to give it 5 stars.
Update May 6, 2012 Have used for many hours without incident until today. The tip broke which considering the amount of use is to be expected. Have used it regularly (every couple of days) which probably keeps corrosion build up at bay and thus I have not had any of the sudden failures mentioned by others. Ordered two tips so that next time I'll have a spare. In consideration of the price and service delivered this tool deserves a full five stars. The next time the Weller folk revisit this design (apparently every couple of decades) I do suggest the addition of a bright LED focused on the tip. I have found the lights to be a valuable assistance on other tools I have.
Same here - dead after a couple of uses Jan 28, 2012

I had mine for a year. Used it twice. Went back to use it a 3rd time after a year... completely dead. How can a product survive after so many dead products on the market?
