 Great all-purpose soldering tool Feb 23, 2008
I am not sure why others have rated this iron so poorly. I haven't had any problems using this soldering iron. This is the first one I've ever owned, and it's pretty easy to use. It heats up quickly and adequately for soldering Silver-containing solder with no problems for audio electronics. I do recommend getting a better soldering iron stand with a cleaning sponge for better safety practices and tip maintenance. The other feature I like is using other quality Weller tips which are reasonably easy to find in local hardware stores and electronics shops.

The Weller tip that came with the iron did not last long and the new tips would not heat up. I'm not buying anything with Wellers name again.

Weller 40 Watt Soldering Iron Kit
This soldering iron stinks! Had an awful time getting the solder to melt, the iron wasn't hot enough most of the time to melt it. Ended up pulling out my stainded glass iron to melt the solder. Figured we would have an extra for electronic aplications, so much for that. Don't puchase this item, you will regret it.
