As with most Starrett instruments, the build quality is amazing. The knurling, the ground surfaces, super cool. Got this punch for its size, both frame and light spring. Works wonders on aluminum, but beware spring force for heavier metals maybe a little weak. 5 stars for the product. 1 star for Amazon posting a picture of a replaceable(screw off) tip model, mine has a standard tip(one piece from punching tip to intermediate pin landing), not screw off tip.

Starrett's center punches are the best I've ever used. Minus one star for showing a picture of the 18A with the removable tip. The tool I received did not have the threaded removable tip. Just as well... the tips loosen and the threaded part breaks. The point is still technically removable, you just have to disassemble the tool.

At first I thought that this punch was expensive, however, now that I have used it, I have absolutely no regrets. It was money well spent. The punch works smoothly and almost effortlessly. I am using it on a textured irregular metal surface and it has worked perfectly without damaging the surface. I just wish that I had bought this punch sooner.
