3It can be little dangerous  May 01, 2008 By T. Morris "On The High Desert"
I would doubt that most of you looking for a Stanley FatMax hammer are doing so for survival in 2012. I bought mine for framing and carpentry work and it has several issues that make it one of those hammers that I have and not one that I prefer on a daily basis. It has a flare on the end that makes it all but impossible to easily use with a metal hammer ring on your tool belt. It constantly catches on the ring when pulling the hammer out and you must tilt it to get it to drop back into the loop. Also, if the hammer catches on anything like a ladder you're coming down it will not pull out of your hammer loop and it can literally leave you hanging. It also gives off a ping sound when you hit a nail and unlike a golf club doing so it becomes very annoying very quickly. This comment would apply to all the FatMax hammers regardless of weight because the design is the same for all. I'll leave the hammer around on the job site but won't use it with a tool belt. It's a rugged hammer but not well thought-out for the construction trade or weekend builder.

5Great Framing Hammer !  Oct 25, 2010 By Jonthomasdesigns
I Bought this hammer to help my Father-In-Law frame my house , he is in the business ..i am not .. It worked perfect , the enlarged head is perfect and very forgiving .. the anti vibe works extremely well, hanging Joice hangers was a breeze compared to using his 20oz eastwing .. i do not regret this purchase at all

5Good one handed hammer for steel frame demolition.  May 27, 2012 By Darren
I'm a commercial construction worker and I use this for my secondary hammer, adze is my primary. I have had no problems drawing or returning this hammer to or from my DEWALT DG5139 Heavy-duty Hammer Holder on a Style n Craft 74-052 2-Inch Work Belt. I can flick the head upwards and catch the handle in one motion. I have read that another consumer has had problems with it catching and snagging on his metal loop. I do agree with the snagging when drawing the hammer, but with a small adjustment to the positioning of my hammer holster, all is well. At first it would get caught in both directions. Then I moved the holster forwards closer to the side of my hip and it glides out without a hitch. No double or triple grabbing and no leg massaging with the handle upon return (missing the loop). I'm very pleased with comfort as well. I hit steel, concrete and sheet rock 5 nights a week and haven't had any hand pain what so ever. I have felt a vibration in the hammer when holstering it after a solid hit, but not when using it. That proves the hammer does what it says it can do, at least to me. I do wish the claw was a little flatter, but it does pry shots from the deck pretty easily, when prying sideways.
Over all I'm very pleased with this hammers performance, durability and comfort. I do recommend this product to any building wreckers or laborers who are looking for a hip hammer. I'm also going to purchase the Stanley 51-169 28-Ounce FatMax Xtreme AntiVibe Rip Claw Framing Hammer here for $22.89, that's a steal.

5very good hammer,  Apr 14, 2012 By Julie Miller

1wrong hammer sent  Mar 16, 2012 By DavidG
I was looking for a framing hammer and thought I'd give this one a try since a fellow carpenter had one. The hammer sent did not even look like the photo. Amazon took it back no problem but it was a waste of time.
