2OK product  Feb 15, 2009 By jc
I'm familiar with Peltor products. This headset has great hearing protection, one of the best I've used. But the "listen only" part leaves something to be desired. I bought these to use in my woodshop. There are times when I have repetitive work and like to listen to my mp3 player. I found 2 problems with these using for that purpose.

1. The cord is too short. When I plug them into my ipod and put the player in my back pocket, i'm constantly pulling the plug out

2. The volume is too low. I know, I know, you're supposed to keep the volume low, but when the ipod is on full volume, you can barely hear it in the headphones, regardless of whether the machinery is running or not.

Result, I bought a different pair of headphones for that purpose. I'll probably keep these around for hearing protection, but don't buy them if you intend to use them with an MP3 player. I even tried using them with an amplifier made for headphones, to no avail.

5No more headaches  Jan 27, 2008 By Frddyj "frddyj"
I use this headset with my ipod during snow storms where i operate a 1972 front end loader with a detriot diesel engine and it is the loadest thing that i have ever heard!
.
Prior to buying this headset, i was using a headset from home depot and needed to use ear plugs in addition.
.
With this headset, i do not need the earplugs and get better protection. They are very comfortable and do not hurt the area around your ears where they touch. I believe that they have gel cushioning. Another good feature is that there is no volume control & the music plays low so that you do not damage your hearing.

5The perfect headset for High Noise, but maybe not what you are expecting.  Nov 13, 2010 By T. Arnold
These are the headphones your hearing specialist will be happy with!

I bought this headset knowing how it was made as its just an all black version of the same AOSafety earmuffs I wear when using powertools. I bought them exactly because I already liked how they fit, that they run a little warm but do their job well and comfortably. ( AOSafety is a division of Peltor ).

I am so happy I did purchase them.

25db of noise isolation. When working in the datacenter or in a tunnel on the train any noise is buried deep in the background. I've tried many brands of active noise canceling headphones ( Bose, Skullcandy, Koss, Philips ) and they all have a major drawback and that is the noise canceling makes your ears tired. Yes, it feels quieter but there is still a lot of activity working over your eardrums which leads to that fatigued feeling. You don't get that with huge bulky over the ear passive noise canceling. Sure, I've nicknamed them my Birth Control Headset but I don't care, they work.

Sound level is low. They are limited to 85db. Again, this is On Purpose. If you want to blast your eardrums out you probably want something else. For 6 hours of constant listening while in a noisy environment ( think about an airline ride, if you sat on the wing ) I personally don't want to use the silence to just deaden my hearing with loud music.

I also use these for shortwave listening. Again they have low sound output ( on purpose ) but this has saved me so many times while tuning across the band; think of that huge squeal being transmitted by your neighbors ancient computer... it gets stomped flat. How many times with my old headphones did I hit a chirp that left my ears ringing for several minutes.

Its probably best if you think of these as very good hearing protection that happens to have a cable so you can listen to music at a reasonable level. I can't stress enough that this is not a set of loud rock your brains out headphones.

The cable by the way is short. I find it just the perfect length to reach to my left front pocket and an iPod with no slack to get in the way but it is definitely on the short side.

5Buying another set!!  Oct 30, 2008 By Nick Robinson
I bought this set about a year ago. My father tried it with his IPOD a month ago, I kissed my set good buy. Now buying another set for me...

1Missed opportunity for functional product  Apr 23, 2011 By Z
I purchased these so I can listen to my iPod while riding the bus to work. I already own a pelter noise-blocking headset that I am very happy with, so I thought this headset would have the same noise blocking quality but with the added function of headphones. This headset sound is so poor that listening to music or audio is as dull as possible. My existing $10 headphones sound so much better that there is no comparison. The volume is very low when using this headset with an iPod or android phone that you will hardly be able to listen at a normal volume level even at full volume.

As for the sound blocking, not as effective on the bus, instead of the expected silence, I hear the drone of the bus engine.
