Racetunes vs worktunes Feb 25, 2006
By T. C. Morse I am a longshoreman who spends 40 to 80 hours a week operating a crane or forktruck of some kind.I bought the worktunes first and found them to be well built and comfortable. The only problem was that i live in a very rural area in Maine with few radio stations to choose from. I needed more music options.
The racetunes came equipped with an input jack for my mp3 player. By hooking my mp3 into my racetunes i was now able to listen to the music i wanted to hear, while at the same time blocking out the screaming engine noize around me. The quality of the recorded music in your headphones will not be as clear as you are used to with your earbuds, but most people should be satisfied enough.

Ultimate Noise Suppression Radio Headset Sep 27, 2005
By C. StarWolf
"Sky Valley Emporium"
I bought the Peltor radio headset (without the audio jack) for my husband to take to football games & he loved it, so I bought this new model with the audio jack & cord for myself. It's comfortable (I usually can't stand to wear headphone,) blocks out irritating outside noise - but you can still hear someone talking directly to you, and it has decent sound quality. Very good product for the money.

A very good product Nov 11, 2006
By William A. Craig After reading a few reviews I wasn't so sure about this headset. I guessed correctly that the people who had poor radio reception may live in areas that have a high level of airwave interference. My headset has great reception for both am and fm. I haven't figured out yet how to use my ipod with it. I think I need to buy an adapter, similar to a car adapter.
Now I can cruise around with my lawnmower and listen to the radio , very nice.....it keeps my ears warm too
..UPDATE..after coming back I see I made a mistake with my star rating...it should be 5 stars

Well Built, Reasonable Value, Bit Heavy But I Do Use Them Jul 17, 2007
By Tractor Tech This item mostly works well though it picks up radio interference from my tractor which my regular radio rejects well. Radio reception is lousy as noted elsewhere - it seems to be a very cheap radio despite the large antenna.
Also, it is quite heavy with the 2 batteries installed (not included either) but you get a lot of battery life.
The operation is a bit odd with the external jack - basically the radio is always on but you just turn the volume to minimum at which point you can hear your MP3 player or whatever but the volume control is still controlled from the MP3 player. It would have been nice to control volume using the hearing protector volume control (nice and chunky, usable with work gloves) instead of the more delicate MP3 player's volume (buried in a pocket and too small for gloved hands).
However, the plus is you can hear the radio and the external signal at the same time, which could be a plus under certain circumstances.
In future I would buy a set of normal hearing protectors and just drill a small hole and epoxy head phone speakers inside the cups - that would be cheaper, lighter and I think would work just fine.
One final point - these are NOT noise canceling - they do not actively reduce noise coming in, they just block and absorb it (and they do that fine).

Great for PodCasts Aug 16, 2006
By J. Stepro As hearing protection, like other Peltor products, it is great. The tuner and the audio quality are ok, but nothing to brag about. The sound is a bit shallow. However, where this product shines is simple ability to accept an audio input such as from an Apple iPod. I listen to podcasts and during my lawn work and am very thankful to be able hear the audio over the sound of my mower. I love this product, but the average audio quality won't get it 5 stars. Still, it is good enough that I will not mow without them.
