Compound leverage increases mechanical advantage nearly 7 to 1. Simply squeeze handles together with one hand while holding stud in place. A unique punch and die shape creates a rectangular crimp, bending over thickness of channel and stud at the same time to form a sturdy bond. Crimp is always the proper strength and resists stress from any angle. Spring return handles snap the punch back in a ready position to go on to the next stud or fastening point. Lightweight and compact size allows the user to work overhead or in tight quarters with ease. Tool fits inside the smallest stud and runner. Punch and dies are constructed from high quality tool steel and are easily replaceable. Body of tool consists of an aluminum/zinc die cast 'C' frame and rust resistant, nickel plated steel handles and parts. Tool also features non-slip vinyl grips with hand stops for added comfort and resistance to elements | | | | | |

A necessary tool Jan 06, 2010
By W. Thomas Compton The stud punch crimper holds steel studs to steel track securely until I pop rivet them together permanently with steel pop rivets. The punch is just under 1/8 inch or the metal distorts during punching, in any event, the hole often needs to be cleaned out with a 1/8 inch drill before insterting a pop rivet.
I am building tables for a modular model railroad. This will repeatedly be taken apart and stored and reassembled at different venues throughout the year. Therefore the tables must be rock solid and maintain dimensions, and be easy to move. No wood frames!!
The alternative self tapping screws (which need to be predrilled anyway) are not nearly as solid as the crimp - pop rivet combiination. And drilling every hole is a royal pain in the neck, as well as expensive considering the number of broken drills.
A good value if you are spending more than a day assembling metal stud/track. You can do without it, but this is a real time saver.

Very good tool for tight space Jan 10, 2007
By N. Thach This crimper is excellent to use with metal stud, but you will still need some room (about 2 inches) in the back of the stud to work with it.

Great for tight spots... Oct 02, 2002 But screws hold better. I found it worth the money, as I could not get into a tight spot and this went in easily. Also, for those marginal areas, you can use it for a starter hole for a screw
Works, but too bulky for tight spots Feb 24, 2012

I purchased this crimper to secure the backside of perimeter walls in a basement remodel. I had several areas that were very tight to the foundation wall and/or some immoveable plumbing. Unfortunately the crimper is quite large and difficult to work with in the tighter areas.
For the areas that I can get it into position, it punches a nice secure crimp.
I do prefer screws to crimping though, and would not recommend this as a primary method to secure studes to track.
Great tool! May 24, 2011
By James V. Franks I was skeptical at first, but now I know this tool does a good job. I have done several steel stud projects in the past and I have always screwed the stud to the channel. I have always disliked the "bump" of the screw head sticking out when applying the drywall sheets. I used a double crimp on each stud edge and they are rock solid. I used this crimper on my channel and load bearing metal studs. The load bearing metal studs are thicker then the non-load bearing studs that many people use. It does take a good deal of grip strength to crimp this double thickness of steel. I made extension handles for my crimper and it worked flawlessly. I can now crimp steel studs easier and at a much faster rate then by using the traditional "screw" method. Using a light weight oil will also help you lessen the crimp effort and prolong the life of your punch and die. I only gave this product a 4 star rating due to the effort needed to do a crimp. If this tool had 6" longer handles it would greatly decrease the amount of force needed to accomplish this task. Well worth owning!
