5 stars so far Aug 24, 2008 [...]
Good through September 2008.
I don't have any chuck wobble as some others have described on either tool and the batteries have been fine so far. Knock on wood.
The impact driver is the only way to go for any medium to heavy duty screw driving. I used 4" x 3/8" hex head lag screws to hang a 2x4 in the garage(then put screws into that for hanging brooms, shovels etc). I could have countersunk the head of the lag into the 2x4 there was that much power.
With the drill set to 2nd gear and on the drilling torque setting it went through 3/4" hard maple without breaking a sweat. Nice tools.
I had a guy install a garage door recently and he had the blue version of these tools. When I told him I had the black and white(shamu) version, he wouldn't shut up about how great he thought they were. He used the impact driver to do the whole install -- rails, springs, hinges, all the hardware.
I'll update with any problems.
Deserves another star Aug 17, 2008 This is a carpenters dream. These drills have the best power to weight ratio on the market (2008). spot lights on the front for dark places. 15 minute battery charge with extra long life . I would not change anything about these drills. You will want to buy an extra battery to make battery rotation efficient.
Great impact driver & drill set Aug 13, 2008 This impact driver & drill set was recommended to me by a professional cabinet maker. It is simply great; light, compact, powerful, quick charging, it even has an led light to help see in tight places. The only problem is perhaps it is too powerful. But this is probably my technique. I need to learn there is no pre-set clutch but the clutch is controlled by the trigger. For building a deck, it's the best.
Just what I needed Aug 11, 2008 I started a deck project and a friend had just bought a set of Makita tools. When I saw how powerful and light weight the tools were, I had to get a set for myself. It was the best gift I could have received. The battery life is great and I found that I used the light on several late night occasions.
I have had no problems and I have used them extensively. By the way, the deck looks great!
Makita Cordless Aug 01, 2008 Couldn't be happier. First time cordless impact user. Will not go without again. Makita is definitely the forrunner in 18 volt lithium-ion. Already had the cordless drill, so I new it was good. Now I have 2 drills & 1 impact with flashlight. Highly recommend.
