clean, comfortable sanding May 05, 2006
By Israel Holby I love this sander. The handle is comfortable and makes sanding allot easier. I had another vacuum sander but never ended up finishing a job with a regular sander since the other vacuum sander was so uncomfortable and difficult to use. Using this I was able to do a small drywall job in my house without moving out or coating the house with dust as happens with a regular sander. I'm not a professional so I really appreciated the soft grip which made holding onto it after sanding for a long time much easier. I also liked being able to shift hand positions and use both hands for difficult parts or to give my arms a break.

Decent tool, but rough around the edges Oct 04, 2008
By I. Maine This sander was a decent solution to my sanding problems, but it has some issues as well. I needed something to augment a Porter-Cable wall sander while I refinished hallways and staircase walls. The Porter-Cable sander is an amazing tool (a little expensive), but something else was needed for the edge-work. That's where this Marshalltown vacuum came in. It does a good job of sanding, but because it isn't an orbital sander you really need to be careful not to grind straight lines right into your walls. With the vacuum applied it is also tiring to move because it adheres to the wall so tightly. In the end, it serves its purpose for edge work, but it is still a pretty rough tool. I replaced the hose that was included because it was to flimsy.

Well designed and well built Aug 22, 2006
By John Hoeger This is really as advertised. Works great, handles easily, and makes hand sanding into a comfortable job. It is strong and rugged but light weight and well balanced.

Good idea but not flat Jul 08, 2009
By Chris Garvey While the sander is a good idea, and it does consume most of the dust created with sanding, the sanding plate is cupped and sands through the compound along the edges before it hits the center. I contacted Marshalltown and to their credit they were outstanding. They sent me another one no questions asked and didn't even ask me to send the old one back. Unfortunately I now have two sanders with cupped base plates. If the plates aren't reasonably flat you cant feather seams out the way you need to. I might try to lap the edges with sandpaper and a flat surface to take down those outside edges, but that's not something I should have to do. Great customer service(a dying art)but the product leaves something to be desired.

Works well with a little modification Jan 20, 2011
By Steve Ordered in spite of several reviews that noted the bottom surface wasn't completely flat. Sure enough when I look at mine the surface is visibly concave. Figured I'd give it a try, hey maybe it's supposed to be like that! Nope. The corners dug into and gouged the walls.
SO. I removed the handle (no tools needed.) Heated the bottom half with a heat gun and then clamped to a flat piece of wood. Waited about 10 minutes for it to cool down and presto, the surface is now flat.
Works great! Catches more than 90% of the dust. Only a very small trace gets out. Makes the job much less hassl.
Can't complain too much. It was cheap and only needed a little tweak to make it work right.
