A good one! Jul 28, 2007
By Handyman Bought one of those about 6 months ago.
I considered the oil-lubed Porter Cable job boss before, my friend has one of those and I used it many times before, but the IR compressor is much quieter and a little bit lighter (makes a difference when loading and unloading from the truck).
On the other hand, the wheels on the PC unit make it better if you need to carry it to some distance (which I normally don't need to do).
Used mine mainly with my nailers (framing, finish and brad) but also with some high speed die grinders and polishers.
While it does a fine job with the nailers it obviously isn't made to generate enough CFM for continous grinding and does need to recover every 30 seconds or so for a few seconds.
Whenever I used it with a grinder it would be running for lengths of time with no complaints at all.
It worked flawlessly until some bastard decided to steal it from my job site, I'm going to buy another one of those without a second thoght.
HTH!

Best little compressor in town. Jun 05, 2008
By Jeffery Jones

Running several framing crews with larger units, we always have a need for smaller units for punchout work. Impulse units simply cost too much to operate on site all day (do the math).
Setting the unit up you can easily run 2, even more nailers on this pump. The pump size and volume is what is important not just the size of the tank. It does no good to have a 60 gallon tank if it take an hour to recover (had this proplem with other smaller pumps like Bostage).
All said and done great little pump very dependable unit. My oldest one is 8 years old.

NOT 100% duty cycle as claimed, and very cheaply made Jul 21, 2009
By SawsAndPlanes Some retailers will claim this unit is made in the US...it is actually made in Italy. (And very poorly at that...)
First off, the compressor arrived with no fewer than three air leaks. The dual quick-connect fitting, and both drain cocks, were installed with NO tape or dope. Worse, once I re-installed them PROPERLY, one of the drain cocks was next to impossible to close completely, and the other could not be turned tightly enough to completely close it off, including with a wrench.
So I called IR customer service (1-800-SERV-AIR) to order replacements. While on the phone, I asked the tech about the claimed 100% duty cycle. Turns out it's nowhere even near that! He said that if the compressor cycles more than 7 times an hour, it is considered abuse.
SEVEN TIMES AN HOUR?? That's roughly two pin nailers! Must be Ingersoll has a different definition for 'duty cycle' than the industry standard. Interestingly enough, it is only the marketing materials which say 100%...it is mentioned nowhere in the owners manual.
And finally, because the unit was intended for the European market, the regulators are primarily denominated in bars, not PSI. The PSI scale is the inner reading (think km/h on a US speedometer), and is very difficult to read quickly.
Bottom line...get something else. You can find a much better unit for much less money. Apparently Ingersoll has gone the 'value engineering' route, and that's a shame.

By R. McMahon I had bought an Ingersoll Rand oilless air compressor with 20 gallon tank >25 years ago. Well used on the shop/farm/construction until the piston connecting rod broke. Got my moneys worth and then some. Hadn't got around to throwing it away maybe salvaging the tank when I got a recall notice from IR for tank safety. They picked up the old compressor and let me buy an DD2T2 for $100 including shipping or or refund. Have used DD2T2 now for 4 years. Its rugged, powerfull, quite for an air compressor and very well made. Easily out performed the larger compressor it replaced. A company standing behind their products is rare these days. Tools are an investment, good tools cost money and I have got many good returns via Ingersoll Rand air compressors. Good company great portable air compressor.

Best buy for the $$$ Jan 29, 2009

After researching compressors in this price range to death (mid-upper $200s), I found this to be the best overall package on the market. I had to deal with Makita Customer Svc once trying to find a certain Makita product to buy, and they were so arrogant and condescending on the phone that I ruled out the excellent MAC2400. I'm not giving my money to a company that has such poor cust serv reps, at least in my experience. This Ingersoll unit is not too noisy, and seems to be of very good build quality. It is an oil-lubed machine, which for long term durability is better from what all my research indicated vs. oil free. The 100% duty cycle is a rare find in this price category...most competitors won't even advertise their cycle out of shame, but usually 50% or if you're lucky 75%. You can waste a lot of time comparing compressors, instead do yourself a favor and buy this one and get to work.
