2Dissapointment! This one falls short!  Aug 29, 2010
I had high hopes for this impact gun. After many positive consumer reviews I ordered this and once it arrived I ran to the garage and threw an inlet on and got it connected to air as fast as I could. Instantly noticed a hissing coming from the handle of the tool. I rechecked my pressure and checked my connections. I still had hissing. I contacted IR and they said that was not normal and that the gun should be silent when not being used. I ended up shipping it back and getting another one. The second one arrived and again I ran to the garage connected it up. Sure enough this one still had the same problem. I don't understand why this gun would have this issue since the construction is much like the 231c models, which I am going back to. The 231 will deliver and is about $100 less. I just hope others that have problems with this impact gun will post their issues.

The tool itself looks good and feels like it could do the work. The gun seems a little heavy and it consumes a lot of CFM. With its high RPMs this gun screams. It sounds great but I think it could get annoying after a while due to the volume. IR is a great company that makes great tools. I just think they fell short on this one. This one is truly form over function. When it comes to tools I am more of a function over form kind of guy.

56 year old gun...  Jul 02, 2010
... still hits hardest. i bought this gun 6 years ago for $250ish, and after using it every day for those 6 years, it still outperforms new $400 Snap-On guns. don't ask me how, 650 ft-lbs isn't usually better than 810! when this gun starts giving me fits, i'll buy a rebuild kit for it. until then, it'll work flawlessly!

5This is a great impact  Feb 28, 2010
I've had mine for years. I got it from Sears ebay store for a ridiculously low price. There may be guns with more power, but I haven't run across anything it would not take off, including a completely messed up suspension nut. Rather than stop it just finished stripping the threads and off it came. I have friends with plenty of their own tools that want to borrow it all the time.

5very nice!  Aug 19, 2009
Beats the the heck out of my other POS impact gun. Used it yesterday to test taking off wheel lugs (that's what I will be primarily using it for). This thing is a beast!!! Really glad I found it.

5ALOT of torque  Aug 05, 2009
The Thunder Gun will rattle out almost any old rusty bolt or spin off almost any nut you can put it on. The ones that are stuck really good, well it will twist them off. I have had it twist several 1/2" and a few 5/8" bolts that were rusted in solid.

I use this gun for work on big rigs and farm tractors. Can't beat it for the money. Just be sure to upgrade your hose and fittings to give it plenty of air.

The only downfall is that it uses alot of cfm at load. It will tap a smaller compressor if you are using it heavily.
