NOT the Military Version, photo is misleading... Dec 07, 2011
By Michael D. Paniccia
"Mike P"
I have both the military version, (Gerber 22-80027 Ultra M), and the non-military version (Gerber 22-80012). The M stands for military version. It has a "covered" LED. The non-military version the LED is exposed. The photo shows the military version, and the item number lists it as such. But they ship the non-military version. This is probably an oversight as I usually have good experiences with Amazon. If you click and order this you will probably actually get this:
[...]
There are significant differences between the two lights. Mainly brightness and durability. The regular version is pretty tough, and it's a fair amount brighter. I don't know what they are listed as but I can tell you from experience, switching batteries, etc. the regular version is brighter and has a wider, more usable beam. If you wanted a light for say a keychain, the regular is probably a better choice. It is somewhat dim compared to other flashlights this size, but is fairly rugged and gives off a decent amount of light. The LED is exposed, could possibly break, though unlikely.
The military version is not quite as bright, and is also a narrower beam, less overall usable light. It IS however, one of the most rugged, durable lights in existance. Even if it does give off a fairly limited amount of light. The military one would be a good choice if you were mainly going to use it in a fairly restricted, small area. Reading maps, finding something in the car, and your main concern is the RUGGEDNESS, and RELIABILITY, of a light.
For a keychain light the regular version is probably better, to say walk from the car to the house. For a tank of a light, that is for more specialized tight spaces, that do not require a "floody" light, or even a bright light, the military version would fit the bill. The military version is also usually at least twice the price as the regular. And a fair amount dimmer.

The best LED flashlight - Period - End Dec 11, 2009
By Michael G. Lustig Gerber's Infinity task lights are not the brightest single LED flashlights because they don't have a reflector. With that out of the way consider this: It's virtaully waterproof, has a bulb life of 100,000 hours, can burn for over 40 hours (or more) and accepts cheap, readily available AA batteries. This model is even more heavy-duty than the Gerber 22-80010 Infinity Ultra LED Task Light, Green. The main improvements are that the recessed LED is less likely to break, the circuit board is waterproof and double gaskets are used.
I ALWAYS have an Infinity Task Light in my possession. Personally, I use Energizer Ultimate L91BP-4 Lithium AA Battery 4 Pack batteries because they last way longer than alkaline batteries. I also put some silicone grease on the gaskets.
Yes, the anodized coating wears away in time -- especially under the clip (which I don't use). This is a minor point and has happened to the other flashlight I ALWAYS carry in my bag: the Surefire E1E-BK Executive Elite Flashlight - Black. Between these two I have a really bright halogen light and a long lasting LED light with a combined weight of only a few ounces. I do carry a spare lithium AA and a CR123 battery just in case. If you've ever been in NYC in a blackout you'd understand my reasoning.
great light and compact flashlight. Apr 21, 2012
By Alfred T. Brayton This is the fourth flashlight of this type that I have purchased. I have three of them in the house; this last one was for my wife's purse. The fourth one went to a friend who hikes at night sometime who tells me it throws more than adequite light for his purposes on the trail at night. They are tough, waterproof and with a long, long burn time for batterys and bulbs. I have yet to have a bulb burn out on one of them. Great product!
Not Excited About This Light Dec 22, 2011
By Dennis Downing I was dissapointed in the light output. Might be useful over a short distance but not very btight. About the same as one of those Photon key chain lights. Also, the product description indicates the light has three color outputs but it only produces white light. I have a Gerber 22-80124 Omnivore LED light $23 that is MUCH brighter but it is bigger. I bought the Gerber Infinity Ultra because of the small size and price but I'm dissapointed in the performance.
