1Once was a good product. What happened?  Dec 01, 2008 By Almus Kenter "opposable thumbs"
I had one of these that was fantastic. My mom saw me pruning with it and was impressed. I promptly gave it to her as I figured I would just order another (which I did). The replacement is NOT AT ALL AS GOOD. The blade doesn't cut as well. The older one even well used cut like a dream compared to the replacement that was brand new. Old one was made in usa, replacement was made in prc. I have no clue whether that is the reason but I am now looking for an NOS old one everywhere I go.

3Gerber Saw  Dec 22, 2010 By J. T.
I purchased one of these as a gift after having one for years. My Gerber saw is made in the United States; however I immediately noticed this saw was made in CHINA. My U.S. version has been a very dependable and quality product. It is light and has remained sharp over many years of use, both as a bone and a wood saw. I keep the blades clean after use and they have held up very nicely. Very disappointed this Gerber product is no longer manufactured in the United States though. "Made in the USA" is very important to me; especially when purchasing outdoor/hunting equipment. Would have been willing to pay more for a USA made product.

4Great Saw for Lightweight Backpacking!  Aug 29, 2008 By W. Munro
I've used this saw on all my backpacking trips for the past 4-5 years. It's fantastic, and I've definitely been able to cut through whole trees/logs close to the 6-inch diameter (length of blade).

For those of you wanting the weight specs:
5.1oz Saw and one blade
1.0oz Nylone case

The blade folds into the plastic handle quite well, without leaving any sharp edges exposed, so you could definitely pack the saw without the case if desired.

1junk  Sep 11, 2011 By hunter
I bought this saw a year ago to use for cutting bone while gutting big game. It worked good on the first elk I used it on. I took it hiking with me this summer, not looking at it first, when I needed it to trim branches off for firewood, I saw it was cracked down the length of it. I contacted Gerber, and they did nothing about it. I will never buy Gerber again.

5Great lightweight saw  Feb 18, 2010 By T. Iverson "Desert Rat"
I have had none of the problems of that are described by other reviews here. I have several of these. I have owned this saw since 1999 and have used it extensively (I was a full-time guide) for the first 2 1/2 years. Now it gets used during the summer and fall, and is the perfect game processing saw with the fine toothed blade.

I only use the fine blade for that purpose and the coarse blade for wood. It is extremely aggressive and you must be careful with it, I tore a huge gash in my hand while using it in the field.

You must be careful with this saw when changing blades, otherwise it can mess up the operation of it if done incorrectly. I think that may be the cause of some of the problems other reviewers have posted. It is not a permanent problem, and if the blade is loosened and reconnected correctly, it fixes this problem.

I found that ordering a new blade is not cost effective, just order a new saw with both blades.

I feel that the quality of this product was top notch, and I will be rating it a full 5 stars. I only give 5 stars to well-designed gear I feel have no inherent flaws. I would recommend this product without hesitation.
