Cute little flashlight Mar 21, 2010 Well built and fun to use. 4 colors come handy for a variety of conditions. Not a lot of power, but it's not designed for that purpose. It still has enough light to see where you're going in the dark.
Pretty decent task light Mar 10, 2010 I've had this Gerber for about 2 months now and it has actually turned into an everyday carry item of mine at work. it is very light and small at first sight which is great for tight places. Upon picking it up i could tell it was made pretty well and that fact has been tested from several drops at arms length on concrete. I do not believe it is made in the USA, but rather China. The whole body is made of metal and then you get to the top rotating piece that has the colored lenses which is made of plastic. Albeit, it seems to be a decent composite. I would still of liked a metal piece that I'm sure would last longer. The clip has held up so far, but i do see it breaking in the future. I still have it on combined with a lanyard now, but i don't think it will last heavy abuse - just my assumption. The Recon is a little brighter than what i expected for a L.e.d. of this size. It is very versatile with the changing lenses which I really liked. The red lens i find to be the most used beside the white. It is pretty dim but in very dark conditions works perfectly. The blue lens for liquid identification, i have found to be quite useless. I'm not 100% sure I'm using it right, but it doesn't seem to be something I would use regularly. I have yet to really field test the green light which i understand to be for map-reading. It seems to be useful but maybe not so needed. I will have to comment on that after I use it for hiking more. Overall, well worth the price. The unit will stand up for what I consider $30 worth -- 6-8 years of abuse.
Great light Feb 10, 2010 This is a great light for the price. I use it in rain and snow in many situations tactical and normal. This light has always worked well for me.

Great concept, poor quality control Jan 15, 2010 I ordered two of these. One of them is perfect, the other has a sloppy bezel ring at the front where you change the color filters. It works, but you can tell it isn't right. The other light has a nice, firm bezel engagement. Basically I paid for two lights and got one that is not defective. If I wanted to spend that sum, I would have bought a different light, one good $35 light instead of one good and one shoddy $17 ea. light. I wouldn't recommend buying one of these unless you can return it locally if you get a bad one. I thought that by buying a Gerber I would avoid this kind of sloppy QC.

Yellow ring, very dim Dec 19, 2009 White output is less than my keychain LED, and red, green, and blue filters are of course much dimmer. Well-constructed body. Nice feel to one-handed twist to turn on. Reference flats on the bottom of the main body and on the side of the red filter so you can select the color you want by touch in the dark before turning it on. Unless you need to switch between colors, I'd suggest a Fenix PD20, which is smaller, lighter, and gives you the options of very low output (min setting is still brighter than the Gerber) as well as tremendously bright output, and settings in between. Also, the central spot of the beam from the Fenix is more consistent brightness all the way across and a purer white. The Gerber's beam drops off in intensity very quickly, and has a yellowish ring in the outer regions (about 1/3 of the radius). If you really need low output and a colored beam, get a Fenix and a colored filter - you'll still be better off. The red filter on the Gerber is rather orange, about the color of the instrument backlighting on BMWs, as opposed to a purer red on Audi instruments. Since the white beam in the Gerber changes to yellow around the edges, the color varies slightly in the outer 1/3 of the central beam diameter when you use the filters - this is especially prominent with the blue filter, in which there is a greenish ring around the central blue spot.
