Because this reputable example of framelock design caught on admirably among knife lovers...making the Paraframe a mainstay of the industry. But we figured there's no merit in being stingy, so we worked up a total of eight versions. And the people are pleased. There is a simplicity to this knife that relates as much to function as it does to form. Its a breeze to open. The clip point blade configuration is ideal for cutting in close quarters. Openness rules the day where the handle is concerned "there's more air than metal "so its quite lightweight and quite easy to keep clean.Clip a Paraframe into your pocket, and you're fully equipped to take care of business. Same great design...with one crucial flaw. Dec 05, 2008

I have been a fan of Gerber blades since my last pocket knife which I owned for many years without any complaints. The blade stayed razor sharp with a routine sharpening every few months and the frame never became loose from the blade even after "average" everyday use.
The blade would open into a locking position with the simple flick of the wrist or you could use your thumb/index finger to flick the blade open via the well-placed peg.
I recently lost my favorite knife I have ever owned which was the previous model of the blade you see before you. This newer model although it comes in a new stainless steel finish has one terrible modification. There is a new safety mechanism that holds the blade into place while in a closed position. I am a southpaw (left-handed individual) and it is near impossible to flick the blade open using my index finger, which was the reason I loved the original model I had. It allowed for quick access to the blade and it's utility. In a downward thrusting position the blade still opens with a simple flick of the wrist but I miss the ease of motion in the upright position that the last knife I had provided.
There is a chance that this new model will not affect the blade play for those of you who are right-handed but I just wanted to forewarn those few "lefty's" out there looking for a smooth-action knife.
All in all, Gerber still makes the best blades out there for the money, and I will continue to purchase their products.

Gerber Paraframe II Mar 17, 2010
By Jaredin Pon I bought this knife for use at my job for the occasional use for opening shipments or for at school (paramedic school) when you need to trim something down (before I sprung for trauma sheers). It has held up thus far (approximately six months) and hasn't had a problem yet. One thing I noticed, though, is that to make it easier to open, loosen the star screw on the side or if you don't have a bit for that, just open and shut it over and over.
PROS:
Stays serviceable sharp with use Light and easy to carry and forget about
CONS:
Self-Loosening bolt (never comes out all the way though, I tested it)
BOTTOM LINE: This is a good knife that I would recommend for anyone who needs a simple and legal (in the state of Idaho if the clip is visible) to carry knife that has the durability needed for a light to moderate task knife.

Good little knife Oct 27, 2010
By Pen Name Good knife but the blade is hard to sharpen. I do like the grip and handle, it fits into your hand perfectly, but it gets slipery, I wraped it in paracord and that helped alot. Perfect for gutting small game, too.

Very attractive and functional knife Dec 29, 2009

I really like Gerber blades, they are affordable and extremely durable. This pocket knife is thin and fits very nicely in my back pocket. The knife slides open easily and is comfortable in my hand. The unique design allows it to be clipped onto a backpack or vest very easily.
Good Knife for the price Apr 15, 2012
By Jeff Davis I have several Gerber knives and have had no problems with any of them thus far, the Paraframe II is no exception. I was looking for a general purpose knife which I could put into my 'in-city' EDC rotation. I already have a Paraframe I, which my only complaint was it would open by itself in my pocket which I fixed by tightening the pivot screw? Anyway, there was a sale on Gerber knives so after looking at several different models, I decided to get the Paraframe II as the successor to my Paraframe I as an EDC knife. I gave it a good inspection after removing the packaging and everything looked kosher! I checked the blade out to see how sharp the factory edge was and was not disappointed as it was shaving sharp! The TiNi coating was complete with no scratches or areas without the coating, the blade opened and closed easily, though not as freely as the Paraframe I, but that's because of the safety modification which helps prevent the blade from opening in your pocket so that was not a negative with me. The handle is all steel and is very sturdy, I haven't had any issue with any kind of pitting or corrosion and wouldn't expect any since 400 series stainless is quite resistant to rusting and corrosion! The frame lock on mine is as solid as it gets with no play or looseness up or down or side to side! I have cut all kinds of things with this knife, used it to peel an orange or two, gutted fish and game with it, used it to cut boxes and plastic binding as well as peeling labels, have put it away dirty and wet then cleaned it the next day with no corrosion or pitting? I have even left fruit juice (acidic and corrosive) on it for several days and the blade still didn't corrode or even discolor? Never had a problem with the handle or the grip, which is a little surprising considering that it's fairly smooth, but the overall shape and design allows for a decent amount of purchase! I keep all my knives oiled and clean, though sometimes, depending on circumstances, it may take me several days to clean it, especially when I am out in the woods or something? It holds a good edge reasonably well, even after a good bit of cutting which is good for an economical knife! Many economy knives especially those with blades made out of regular 420 SS (not to be confused with 420HC or 420V) do not hold an edge, assuming they will even take an edge since regular 420 SS is a medium carbon stainless steel which makes it too soft to hold a serious edge! The reason it's used is it's cheap and soft so it's easy to grind and machine, so you can punch out a hundred knives in no time compared with a higher carbon stainless steel which would take more time to machine. Now back to the Paraframe II, it's a decent knife for the price and will perform as an EDC knife! There are better knives out there, but most of them are also higher priced? I would recommend this knife for EDC carry in-city rather than out in the woods, because there are many more effective options like larger knives and fixed blade belt knives and sheath knives, when your away from the city! After using this knife for 4 years now it's still a decent knife for the price.............
