Poor quality - finish comes right off. Jul 22, 2009
By Full of Fail The first thing that shocked me when I started handling this item new out of the box is the pits and scratches in the larger tools (knife, saw, ruler). They looked used, even though I bought this brand new. I then looked down at my hands and saw that they were covered in the black finish - it was like I had been reading a newspaper. The finish comes right off on your fingers. Lastly, the scissors do not fold smoothly into place inside of the handle. When fully closed, the tip of the blade still extends outside, giving a sharp edge to either cut yourself on or to snag on things coming out of your pocket or sheath. I've never returned something to amazon before...looks like there's a first time for everything. Here I thought Gerber meant quality, not trash.
Great multi Dec 24, 2010
By Brad All my Army buddies are jealous when they see and handle it. It's a bit on the large/heavy side (which I don't mind because I'm a big guy with big hands). If you're looking for something similar but smaller go with the flik.

VERY GOOD MULTITOOL May 26, 2010
By W. T. I just got this Gerber Freehand couple days ago, and it is the best multitool. I compared this with the Gerber 600, and it is much bigger and heavier. The good thing about this tool is you can access the tools without engaging the pliers first, because the tools are locate outside the handle. This make it much easier to get the tool needed without engaging the pliers and trying to find the right tool without the handle fully open. I don't think I will buy this tool again, because it will last me a life time(that's if I don't loose it).
According to the packaging, this tool is made in the U.S.A., as of this date. So if this is a concern to you, then maybe this will help you make the purchase decision on this product. If you like hefty tools on your hand, then this is it.
I give this tool five star, I'm not going to nip pick like previous reviewer. If I'm going to nip pick, then there is a hundred thing to say on any product.
