Warning - this item is NOT for X series Jan 04, 2008
By Mark Huth Be aware that the description of this item is incorrect, with the exception of the manufacturer's description line. This part is for the older "classic" series of Drill Doctors, NOT for the newer version that Amazon now sells. Only the models without the trailing X in the model number can use this. All of the lines above that say it is for ...500X, 750X are incorrect. It is the wrong diameter, as the newer wheels are smaller.
Other than that, it may work fine, but it won't fit my DD, so I can't tell.
Note: Amazon updated the description line to be correct now. However, they still list this as an accessory for the X series and list them in the "better together" link. Sigh.

Installing a new Drill Doctor Diamond Wheel Mar 19, 2007

Drill Doctor Diamond Wheel
This wheel is the same quality as the original part, which, in my case, lasted through hundreds of sharpenings.
An alternative to installing a new wheel is to reverse the existing one. I.e., remove the current wheel, turn it end-over-end, and reinstall. The drill bits I sharpened did not wear out the middle of the wheel, so reversing it provided new wheel life. Once it's been reversed, and it's worn again, a new wheel is required.
If you're having trouble getting the old diamond wheel off the spindle, here's a tip told to me by Drill Doctor. Put the Drill Doctor in the freezer for 30 minutes and then, try again while the unit is still cold. This may sound silly, but it worked for me. The cold shrinks the metal parts just enough for the old wheel to slide right off.

Drill Doctor Nov 23, 2009
By Mr. James L. Kirkish Nice tool if you want to sharpen drill bits like I do. They can be done by hand on a grinding wheel but don't come out near as sharp or hold an edge near as well. For the ease of sharpening and the quality of the finished bit I would purchase again without hesitation.
A+++ Just as expected, delivered quickly. Couldn't ask for more. Apr 14, 2009

A+++ Just as expected, delivered quickly. Couldn't ask for more. But .... I've sharpened hundreds of bits and never needed to change the original wheel. Get one but don't buy 3 of them like I did. They last a very long time.
