BAD PRODUCT DESIGN Nov 15, 2004
By J.J. Bad With all the hype on TV, I was kinda excited to get this product. But boy am I sorry. The soldering tip is so fragile it broke after 5 mins. I wasn't even pressing hard either. I investigated getting replacement tips on coldheat.com and discovered that the tip alone costs half as much as the gun. Rip off. My Cold Heat gun is currently in my trash can.
Do yourself a favor and buy a real soldering gun. Amazon sells a 30 watt soldering gun for under $4. It's not "Cold Heat" but the tip won't crack after 5 mins.

Poor quality, no wire stripper included Jan 07, 2005
By D. Bretzmann The device could not solder two 14ga speaker wires together without keeping the tool on for 30+ seconds. The only reason I give this 2 stars instead of 1 star is that 14ga wire simply may not be what this device was intended to be used for.
Additionally, the shipment did not include the 'free' wire stripper. It includes a mail-in offer which requires a five ninety-nine handling fee.

It just doesn't work!!! Apr 15, 2005
By Keoni, author of Watered-Down Electricity I have this product and read the instructions and advice in the product reviews, but could not get this thing to solder anything, including solder! They say it's tricky getting it lined up right and then it gets hot, well the red light may come on occasionally but there never seems to be even enough heat to melt thin solder! Yes, I tried new batteries. It's a waste of money!

Just like above review.. Nov 16, 2004
By Y. Shin My soldering tip also got cracked after second try.
But wireless solder and instant heat is really great, no hassle.
Although soldering tip is very fragile, I will keep use this thing.
My tip is broken but I can still use it. Considering buying tips though..
