I had been looking for a good ratchet-style pruner for some time. I just can't find them any more at Home Depot or Lowe's--they're all non-ratchet. This pruner is exactly what I was looking for--comfortable design and able to go through sizable limbs without difficulty.

After years of using the lousy by-pass pruners I finally discovered the wonderful ratchet action anvil pruner by Fiskars which is now just OK since I discovered this new Heavy Duty metal pruner by Claus, and believe me it's so much better. It's a tool to love for many years. I can easily cut through stems and branches effortlessly. If it fits between the blades, it will slice it like butter without the blades spreading apart like the by-pass type. The ratchet action takes the hardest branches and slices them quickly and with almost no effort. My wife loves this tool. You just can't go wrong with this choice and Amazon offered the best price, great packaging and fast shipping.

Great for cutting small branches Sep 22, 2009 By J. Zimmerman
A friend recommended a ratchet pruner because it is easier to use than other pruners for branches up to 3/4 of an inch. I've used this one for even larger branches, and it works quite well. My one minor quibble is that it's not that easy to latch or unlatch the lock. But overall a great product.

I was disappointed in the quality of these pruners. I purchased after I read another review recommending them for an arthritic hand. I have slight arthritis, but a small hand, and these were too cumbersome for me.
