 great deal on a cobalt bit set Nov 22, 2006

Nothing drills like cobalt. While made for hard metals, these bits actually do great on wood as well. I use them on both. Compared to high speed steel on wood, these bits stay sharper and penetrate very well without clogging. Of course, when drilling through holes, they will have some tear-out on wood. The Bosch set is a very good value for cobalt bits, and the box is top notch.

Chinese bits, US index, Bosch quality Sep 27, 2011

Welcome to a global economy. These bits may be Chinese, but they punch through stainless and mild steel like butter, and are top notch for demanding metal fabrication. They come packaged in a Huot index, which is a quality US brand of index. Packaging quality bits with a quality index, nothing is German here, but is sure is "Bosch" quality. Use at slow speed with a quality lubricant for best results.

Purchased for a true tool geek as a gift to supplement missing and or broken drill bits. Case is shop worthy, fits nicely in either a drawer or in a tool kit (but you'll need a taller drawer on the pull out to accomodate the case). All drill bits are very sharp, and the design claims it doesn't require a starter punch because the tip has a small point designed for this. It does work, but we still punch if necessary. Heavy duty, and well made. Variety of sizes to accomodate all home shop or even professional drills, either hand held or press.

These bits are far superior to conventional high speed steel bits. As is usually the case, you get what you pay for. Had no problem powering through stainless steel with these bits. The conventional tapered points do a far better job of centering even without a punched pre-set than the various "newer" styles of tips. A little extra care is needed handling the smaller diameter bits. As they are very hard they are also brittle. It is very easy to snap one off by simply laying the drill down hard or tapping the tip on the work surface from the side as you handle the tool. And of course, replacing them one at a time is considerably more costly than the kit price.
Bosch again proves itself as a supplier of quality accessories to match its sound tool line.

I have a 13 pc bosch cobalt bit set that has been incredible. Drills straight holes and has no run out or uneven flutes. I decided to but the 29 pcs set because I allowed co-workers to use my bits and they broke 3 of them and mis-used the others by running too fast. I was so impressed I bought anything with with Bosch name and cobalt label. THIS IS NOT FROM THE SAME FACTORY. The bits found in the 13 pc set are very high quality and run true and cut very well. The new 29 pc bit set is from China and are not true, do not cut as well as the other set and are clearly not of the same quality. I am very dissapointed and was ready to buy Bosch bits the rest of my life. At this point I am waiting to see if I can find bits of the same quality.
