5This thing is... Awesome!  Apr 01, 2012 By N. Alt
I got this thing up at HD a few years back (mine says Husky on it but it is the same item). It was in the clearance section for like $25 and I thought, "gee that's a bit much for what is." Then I picked it up, played with it for a minute and then... the handle turned. I was confused for a moment, and then as I realized what I was holding I got excited. From the description you know by now that it operates as a traditional reversible ratchet, but if you twist the handle it also drives the head. Forget about 5 degree arc, how about 0 degree arc? Ok, so you can't produce enough torque to break a fastener free by twisting, but wow is it nice to just "unscrew" it once you get it loose. The other thing that isn't readily apparent until you use it is that you get some bonus torque on tight fasteners by twisting as you pull. This also helps to keep a socket in place as you are swinging back - and you can eliminate the slack in the swing of the ratchet allowing for the minimum travel possible.

So, awesomeness factor is high, but what's the bottom line? Will it hold up to real use? Is it really cool enough to drop $35 on?

All I can say is that it hasn't let me down yet. I don't use it to break high torque bolts, I try to keep from throwing it against any concrete walls when things aren't going my way with a job, and so far it works like day I bought it.

3Good ratchet but not the miracle tool.  Aug 12, 2011 By Metalman
The overall build of the tool is pretty good. Solid ratcheting action, positive socket engagement, quality switching for direction. It didn't work for the certain part job I wanted, but worked great on another portion of the job which I've had to repeat many times.

Downsides. I bought the 1/4" version. It's supposed to be for tight spaces. The overall ratchet needs to be shorter (are you listening Stanley tools?). And to top it off, if you put a 1/4" reciever on the handle end, you could put a 1/4" chuck with an electric impact.

What I find very interesting is that no matter what direction you twist the handle, the head will turn the same way until you switch the direction on the head. Is it the perfect tool? Maybe if you have a job that requires it. If they shorten the handles, might even be more effective.

5Blackhawk Rotating Ratchet is a "Must Have" for mechanics  Aug 03, 2009 By Andrew G. Martin "the turbo transporter"
This 3/8' drive rotating ratchet tool is fantastic! The twist handle function works great on nuts and bolts in tight locations where there's little room to swing a standard wrench or ratchet handle. You may still need to use a regular wrench to break a very tight fastener free and a torque wrench to retighten to spec's but this tool makes turning the fasteners in and out a breeze. I wouldn't recommend this tool for heavy duty use like wheel lugs or brake caliper bolts but for light to medium mechanical work it's become my "daily driver".

4Not too shabby. Comes in handy.  Mar 03, 2011 By Japdawap
Great tool for places you don't have a lot of room to move your ratchet. The head is a little big and it requires 2 hands to change the ratcheting direction otherwise I would give it a 5.

5Unique and very, very useful  Jan 23, 2011 By Wayne
I found this ratchet on accident while surfing the web a while back. The usefulness of it's unique feature became apparent to me immediately and I bought it. It's heavier than all of my other ratchets of that size and it's thicker at the head too, but that's to be expected given the linkages inside. I love the handle, it's big enough to fill up my hand and allows me to really put some pressure on it without it hurting.

I've not been a big PROTO tools guy in the past, I've used them for work but I've never bought them. For the money, having the ability to twist the handle and drive the ratchet without having to swing the handle makes this one of my favorite tools in my kit. If I break it, I'll have no problems buying another one, it's that useful to me.
