It's way to time consuming to shop for screws each time a job comes up, so I've always liked to keep assortments around.
I used to have a shop with darn near every type screw/bolt imaginable. They'd come in wonderful kits based on type (wood, drywall, sheet metal etc) and head type (phillips, square etc) in nicely organized drawers always in 1/8" size increments. Hunts of local hardware stores for similar proved fruitless, so I turned to amazon.

Unfortunately, this was the best i could find (tho searching amazon for something like this is pretty poor).

ANYWAY: My comments.

CONS: the focus here is on variety. what suffers is quantity, thus if you need 16 screws of a certain type/legnth you're out of luck. Making it an unreliable package for many needs. Included in the count some Silly stuff like thumb tacks, paper clips, cup hangers!
Nothing is identified. (there isn't even a complete contents list to use as guide)

FYI: there are about 8@ of most screws, bolts (2@ for longer legnths). considerably more of brads & nails., a picture hanger assortment, a few light duty anchors. Quality of items except the anchors (which look dicey) is acceptable. A few items have brass equivalents.

PROs: container is well enough made, stuff reasonably easy to get to. Obviously layout designed for portable needs and the containers lock in place very reliably. Fortunately most screws have Phillips heads (was terrified package my come with slotted). It covers most BASIC types of fasteners.

SUMMARY: for the occassional odd fastener need this assortment might suffice as a starter kit. But even for small household projects you'll likely run short. - (You'd need AT LEAST 2 of these kits). But I'd give the container high marks for portability.

I was hoping to get some decent size bolts and nuts - at least 1/4 dia. There are a lot of tiny nails and wood screws, but no nuts and bolts. It's also very difficult to find anything in there, as you can't see anything without pulling each drawer out. This is a decent starter kit if you have absolutely nothing else, but you can get a small variety pack of nails and one of screws without having to get all the extra useless stuff...

I purchased this set for both my dad (for Christmas) and my husband (for Valentine's). They were both extremely satisfied and felt it is a must have around the house. The value is wonderful with this product.
